Children often remind us of the simple pleasure to be gained from just playing and exploring what our bodies can do instead of trying to “learn” or “improve”.
Most of the poses we practise in my children’s Yoga classes you will recognise from adult classes although I give them names that children can relate to more easily such as Rocket and Helicopter. The classes are designed to let children let their imaginations run wild and I incorporate interactive songs and stories.
Starting Yoga in childhood not only improves posture and flexibility but can also improve concentration. Studies have shown that children who regularly practise Yoga perform better in class, which is why Yoga is increasingly being incorporated into the school curriculum.
